women in the war
Throughout all of the turmoil going on during the war, a forgotten factor to the functionality of the army as a whole is women. Many people often sweep them under the rug when discussing the war in Vietnam. However, they played a large role in the successes that the country had. There were over 7,000 women involved in the Vietnam War. Eighty percent of them were nurses. These women were trained to combat and help soldiers seeking medical attention. In America the Sexual Revolution was occurring and issues like contraception and birth control were becoming more mainstream topics. The United States was beginning to steer away from the old stigma of women being only domestic caretakers and homemakers. Now, they were being seen as general parts of the American workforce. The same as any man. Even though they would not be paid the same for years to come.
On the Vietnamese side North Vietnamese women were put in the military to aid North Vietnamese soldiers by setting up trials and creating weapons for them. Similar to the way American women aided men during World War Two by going to work in factories.
On both sides, women were an irreplaceable help to men fighting in combat.
